Apart from making passport verification simple, quick and transparent, installation of CCTVs will be completed soon in all jails. Similarly, bringing police stations and vital traffic checkpoints under CCTV cover in a phased manner followed by connecting them with district, range and zonal police headquarters will be taken up on priority to bring transparency in functioning of the police department.This assurance was given to the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Vigilance Commissioner here today. The meeting was convened to review the status of the corruption related complaints, inquiries and RDAs (Regular Departmental Actions) pertaining to Home Department.Vigilance Commissioners, Dr R K Jerath and Gous-ul-Nisa, Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal, Special Secretary Home, Arshid Ayoub, besides Secretary SVC, Additional Secretary Home and other senior officers of the Home Department, Police Headquarters and SVC were present.
While discussing the issue of passport verification and the loopholes pinpointed, CVC called for enforcing a system which prevents personal contact during passport verification between policeman and the applicant to avoid delays, bringing in transparency in verifications and curb corruption complaints. He asked the authorities of Home Department to look into the issue and ensure that the system is improved and made simple, fast and transparent for the benefit of general public.Briefing the Commission about the status of the cases lying with them, the Principal Secretary Home informed that apart from disposing of 298 corruption related complaints, the department has settled 11 RDAs so far out of 36 received by them. FIRs were registered in 9 RDAs and one case has been challaned in the court of law. Action on remaining 25 RDAs is under progress, the Principal Secretary Home informed the Commission.The Commission directed that reconciliation in figures of complaints and RDAs be got completed expeditiously by PHQ and penal action taken intimated to SVC.Regarding internal vigilance, the Commission was informed that Complaint Monitoring Mechanism has been upgraded in the department and a complaint box has been installed in the department for receiving complaints.
The cases referred to Home Department by other departments for action also came up for the discussion and the Commission sought an action taken report from the department on such cases.Reviewing the cases being received by Forensic Laboratory, the Commission asked Principal Secretary to prioritize the cases and ensure that forensic opinions of the cases are submitted in time.
