In order to provide succour to the flood affected 18 villages of the Shahkot Sub Division, the district administration today airdropped 36000 paranthas, water and 18000 packets of dry ration with the help of Indian Army.The Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma had yesterday evening constituted a team under Chief Executive Officer of Smart City Mr Jitendra Jorwal along with Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr Paramveer Singh and District Food and Supply Controller Mr Narinder Singh to prepare the packages. Subsequently, man power was pumped in for preparing packets of dry ration consisting of 500 grams each of biscuits, rusks and bread along with water bottle. Likewise, the Management Committee of Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh ji provided 36000 paranthas for the residents of marooned villages.
These food packets were transported to Jalandhar Cantt early in the morning where it was loaded in six Army Helicopters under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr Navjot Singh Mahal. Subsequently, the Army Helicopters airdropped the packets in the villages worst affected by the flood in Shahkot Sub Division including Chakk Badala, Jania,Jania Chahal, Mehrajwala, Gatta Mundi Kasu, Mundi Kasu, Mundi Shehriya, Mundi Chohlian, Kang Khurd, Jalalpur, Theh Khushalgarh, Gatti Raipur, Kotha, Fatehpur Bhagwan, Ismailpur, Pipli miani,Gatti Peerbaksh and Raipur.Meanwhile, expressing gratitude to the Army authorities for extending a helping hand, the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police said that timely help by Indian Army has provided much relief to people. They said that airdropping of food packets would continue in the marooned villages with the help of Indian Army till the situation normalises. They reiterated that the state government led by Punjab Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh was committed for bailing out the people in this hour of crisis.
