Ushering in transparency in distribution of wheat through public distribution system, the Punjab government has introduced e PoS (electronic Point of Sale) facility at the ration depots. Giving this information here today the Deputy Commissioner Mr Praneet said that all the 178421 beneficiaries in district will be distributed wheat through this system. He said that the beneficiary families are being distributed 5 kg wheat per person/ per month for Rs 2 per kg at the ration depots. The e PoS machines have introduced unmatched transparency in the system wherein the finger print and iris imaging of the beneficiary are used for biometric identification so that ration is not distributed to a person who is not a beneficiary. The beneficiary is given allocated ration and its receipt on the spot. The machine enables only beneficiary or his or her family members to get the ration. No person, other than beneficiary, can claim the ration. District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Mr Amanpreet Singh Virk stated that 70 food inspectors in district are distributing wheat at 700 depots across the district. This effort of government will enable to take the benefit to actual needy beneficiaries and pilferage is stopped.
