Student organization of India, wing of Shiromani Akali Dal along with Youth Sewa society remembered Mahavir Chakra Major Bhupinder Singh who had displayed exemplary courage in wars, especially 1965 Indo-Pak conflicts on Saturday. On 50th Martyrdom day of Major Bhupinder Singh, SOI volunteers along with Police official’s visited the memorial of Bhupinder Singh near Bharat Nagar Chowk and remembered the hero.Major Bhupinder Singh, Squadron Commander, Hodson’s Horse, led his squadron with distinction in the battle of Phillore and Sodreke in Pakistan in 1965.On September 19, 1965, in the battle of Sodreke his tank was hit and caught fire and Major Bhupinder Singh succumbed to his injuries.
Today, SOI and Youth Sewa society volunteers cleaned the statue of major Bhupinder Singh an pays homage.SOI Zonal President Mr Meetpal Singh Dugri said it is our duty to remember our heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the nation. In future also SOI volunteers will clean and maintain the memorial of Major Bhupinder Singh regularly.Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner of Police Jaskeerat Singh, SOI Secretary General Prabhjot Singh Dhaliwal, Prabhjot Singh Anmol from Youth Sewa Society, Meetpal Singh Dugri also demanded the district administration to take necessary steps to maintain the memorial of Major Bhupinder Singh.Meetpal Singh further said that SOI volunteers have also taken the responsilibity of cleaning and maintaining the statues of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev Singh at Jagraon Bridge regularly and now they will also maintain the memorial of Major Bhupinder Singh.
