A State-Level Awareness Workshop on the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) was organised on Wednesday by the Department of Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship, Haryana at the PWD Auditorium Hall, Panchkula, under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Youth Empowerment & Entrepreneurship Department, Sh. Rajeev Ranjan.
Addressing the gathering, Rajeev Ranjan said that the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024–25, is a landmark initiative of the Government of India aimed at equipping young people with industry exposure and enhancing their employability. He said the scheme offers internship opportunities of six to nine months in the country's top 2,000 companies to eligible youth between 18 and 25 years of age.
He informed that every selected intern receives a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 9,000, enabling them to acquire practical workplace experience and improve their prospects of securing regular employment in reputed companies.
The Principal Secretary stated that candidates who have passed Class 10, Class 12, ITI, Polytechnic Diploma, Graduation or Post-Graduation are eligible to apply through the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Portal of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, provided they are not engaged in full-time employment.
He appealed to universities, colleges, ITIs, polytechnics and other educational institutions to motivate eligible students and pass-outs to register under the scheme and take advantage of this unique opportunity.He further informed that, besides the monthly financial assistance, every selected intern is provided a one-time incidental grant of ₹6,000, released in two instalments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) by the Government of India.
The scheme also provides Life Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance coverage to interns, with benefits equivalent to those available under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
The workshop focused on creating awareness among educational institutions, industry representatives and government departments regarding the objectives, eligibility criteria, registration process and implementation strategy of the scheme. Participants were encouraged to work in close coordination to maximise youth participation and ensure that eligible candidates across Haryana benefit from the initiative.
The workshop was attended by Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of various universities, officers from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, senior officers of the Departments of Industries & Commerce, Higher Education, Technical Education and School Education, Principals and Placement Officers of Government Colleges, Government Polytechnics and Government ITIs, representatives of FICCI and CII, and officers of the Skill Development & Industrial Training Department, Haryana.
The Skill Development & Industrial Training Department, Haryana, which has been designated as the State Nodal Department for implementation of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme in Haryana, organised the workshop to strengthen inter-departmental coordination and facilitate effective implementation of the scheme throughout the State.
