Punjab Public Works Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO, while reviewing the progress of road development works across Punjab during a meeting held at Punjab Bhawan today, said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to providing better road network to the people of the state.

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is undertaking construction and renovation works of 45000 km of roads in the state.  During the meeting, he assessed the constituency-wise and division-wise status of ongoing works related to state highways and link roads falling under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department.

Stressing on completing the works within the stipulated time, the Cabinet Minister directed all the officers to ensure smooth traffic flow by continuously inspecting the roads coming under the department during the monsoon season. 

During the monsoon season, when the paving work cannot be done, W. B. M. Roads were also directed to be prepared for paving work after the rains by rolling them. He directed the officers of the department to monitor the progress on a daily basis so that no work misses the deadline.

Stressing on quality control, the Public Works Minister apprised the officers of the government’s policy of ensuring that good quality work is done so that public money is not wasted in any way. He further directed that continuous inspection and inspection should be carried out by the concerned officers at all levels so that high standards can be strictly maintained at the ground level.  

He asked the officers to ensure strict compliance of required signboards, lane marking and quality control standards at every stage.The Cabinet Minister directed all the concerned officers to register the pending demands for funds immediately and make payments so that there is no delay in the progress of the works.The PWD Minister said that he will review the progress of the works again soon.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Hargunjit Kaur, Joint Secretary Amarbir Sidhu, Engineer-in-Chief Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Chief Engineers Mr. Anil Gupta, Mr. Arshdeep Singh, and Executive Engineers including Superintending Engineers.
