The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Senior Assistant Satnam Singh posted at Excise Department, Jalandhar red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000/-.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by  a resident of village Nagra, tehsil Phillaur district Jalandhar.He informed that the complainant runs a restaurant and he had applied online for a L-5B (Retail Vend of Draught Beer/Wine) licence for his restaurant.

He said that after the application was processed, the Collector-cum-Deputy Commissioner (Excise), Jalandhar Zone, issued directions to the concerned authorities for obtaining the required reports and No Objection Certificates regarding the proposed licence. 

During this process, accused Senior Assistant allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹5,000 from a complainant for processing work related to the issuance of a L-5B (Retail Vend of Draught Beer/Wine) licence. The complainant recorded the conversation regarding the demand for bribe.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB range Jalandhar. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Senior Assistant was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 5,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.

The tainted currency notes were recovered from his possession.In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
