A meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh, to deliberate upon the identification of designated parking places for tourist buses, in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court dated 09.04.2025 passed in CWP No. 16127 of 2000.

The meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), and officers/officials from the Municipal Corporation (MC) and State Transport Authority (STA). Detailed discussions were held on streamlining tourist bus parking to avoid congestion and ensure orderly traffic management in the city.

During the meeting, concerted efforts were made to identify suitable sites for parking of tourist buses, particularly at Hallomajra and Manimajra (Sector 13). The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of Municipal Corporation to fix appropriate daily parking charges and, if required, introduce monthly parking passes for tourist buses.

MC was also instructed to ensure provision of basic civic amenities at the identified parking sites for the convenience of drivers and tourists. The State Transport Authority (STA) was directed to strictly monitor unauthorized parking of tourist buses at undesignated places and to issue challans under the relevant provisions of law against violators.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that all directions issued by the Hon’ble High Court must be implemented in letter and spirit. It was categorically directed that the law be enforced strictly, and all concerned departments should ensure effective coordination for timely and effective compliance of the court’s orders. The meeting concluded with directions to all stakeholders to expedite the process and submit progress reports within the stipulated timeframe.
