Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, today chaired a meeting with officers of all concerned departments to review and finalize the arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations to be held on August 15, 2026 at the Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh. The meeting focused on ensuring seamless coordination among all departments for the smooth and successful conduct of the national event.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to nominate the Parade Commander by July 30, 2026 and to oversee all arrangements relating to parade contingents, rehearsals, security and traffic management. The Department of School Education, Department of Higher Education and the District Education Office were asked to finalize the children’s cultural programme and submit the list of cultural items along with participant details by July 25, 2026.

The Municipal Corporation was instructed to make necessary arrangements for barricading, sanitation and horticulture at the venue, while the Health Department was directed to provide ambulance services and deploy a Medical Officer along with paramedical staff during the function. The Electricity Department was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply, power backup through DG sets and CCTV arrangements. 

The Engineering Department was directed to complete the renovation of the flagpole, dais and gangway well in advance of the celebrations. The Department of Public Relations (DPR) was entrusted with arranging the announcer, public address system and digital coverage of the event. 

Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) was directed to provide adequate transportation facilities for students and NCC cadets. The Deputy Commissioner’s Office will make arrangements for VIP seating as per protocol, invitations, mementoes and refreshments. The Zila Sainik Welfare Officer was directed to ensure that due protocol is extended to the families of ex-servicemen attending the function.

Emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, directed all departments to work in close coordination with one another to ensure the successful and dignified celebration of Independence Day, 2026.
