The Chandigarh Red Cross Society launched its bird welfare initiative, “Red Cross Panchi Basera,” at the Infosys Foundation Red Cross Sarai. The programme was inaugurated by Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Chandigarh Red Cross, and Sh. Amandeep Singh, PCS, Secretary, Chandigarh Red Cross, under the efforts of Ms. Punam Malik, Nodal Officer, Chandigarh Red Cross. Sh. Pavitar Singh, PCS, SDM (East), Sh. Piyush from Infosys Foundation, and Sh. S.C. Aggarwal, President, Chandigarh Senior Citizen Association, were also present on the occasion.

The initiative aims to provide safe nesting spaces, food and clean drinking water for birds across the city. As part of the first phase, a dedicated bird habitat has been developed in the park area of the Infosys Foundation Red Cross Sarai with bird nests, feeding trays, clean drinking water facilities, a small pond and bird-friendly plantation. In the coming phases, bird nests, feeding trays and water facilities will be installed at suitable locations across Chandigarh.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Chandigarh Red Cross, appealed to citizens to actively support this noble initiative for the welfare of birds and contribute towards making Chandigarh more nature-friendly. He also encouraged residents to adopt sustainable modes of transport and support the Chandigarh Administration’s ‘No Car Wednesday’ initiative.
