With Amritsar all geared up for The Hope Initiative, the drug menace is all set to be a passé. The district is ready to successfully host Pray, Pledge and Play components of The Hope Initiative under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Mr Bhagwant Mann and Commissionerate Police, Amritsar.

The event is likely to break all past records of initiatives and gatherings against the drug menace with a record gathering of more than 40,000 students in person and many more joining online as well. The Commissionerate Police, Amritsar, have made arrangements for the live streaming of all these events, while the residents and supporters joining online have been urged to make virtual presentations of their participation and upload these on the website of the Amritsar Police.

More than 300 teachers and coordinators from various educational institutions and organizations met Amritsar Police Commissioner Mr Naunihal Singh and assured him of making the event a success. With organizations as FICCI FLO coming to the fore, Amritsar looks forward to the prompt and sure ouster of the drug menace from the society. Giving details, Mr Naunihal Singh said that all arrangements are in place for the October 18 event.

“As planned, the event shall begin with a Walkathon led by students sporting yellow turbans from the four gates of the walled city to the Darbar Sahib where the ‘Ardas’ would be offered. The yellow headgears have already been distributed among them, while all arrangements for the distribution of the ‘Prasad’ by the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) at the end of the ‘Ardas’ and distribution of refreshments by Baba Bhuri Wale are in place as well,” he said.

The Police Commissioner added that the ‘Pledge’ and ‘Play’ components shall follow thereafter as planned. “With a mammoth gathering expected at Amritsar on this occasion, the Amritsar Traffic Police have chalked out a special traffic management plan for the day. This can be accessed at the website of the Amritsar Traffic Police. Residents are advised to go through it and observe it to prevent traffic snarls and avoid being caught up in a jam,” said Mr Singh.
