Articulating the great importance of language and culture for the human, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that language and culture are the identity of any society and due to their loss, man loses the important capital of his life.

While giving prizes to the students who excelled in various fields of literature at the office of the Language Department today, Mrs. Jain said that language and culture are of the highest importance in the human race and if a language is not uphold, than it will perish.  She said that mother tongue plays an important role in the development of every person and he can express his feelings better only in his mother tongue. That is why Punjab government is trying to implement Punjabi language in every sphere.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the students to be more sensitive towards the mother tongue to improve their learning ability and sharpen their personality so that they can become responsible citizens of the society. She said that with the use of mother tongue, they can develop more confidence and will be able to prove themselves better in the society.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner suggested the formation of “Influential Group’’ of students of government schools on which students could share information for the development of their mother tongue, culture, sports etc. and to avoid the deadly effects of drugs. Mrs. Ashika Jain said that in order to give priority to the mother tongue, the Punjab government has made it necessary to put up signboards in Punjabi language in government and semi-government offices, besides boards, corporations offices, educational institutions, public, private and commercial establishments. She has appealed to all government and non-government institutions to write their signboards in Punjabi before February 21

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner also distributed prizes to the students who won in various categories of literature and released a poster regarding Punjabi language. Earlier, the District Language Officer Dr. Devinder Boha welcomed the Deputy Commissioner on hir arrival at the office of the Language Department. On this occasion, District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Mr. Baljinder Singh, Dr. Onkar Singh, Jyoti Atri, Dalveer Kaur, Sudha Jain Sudeep were also present.
