The Chandigarh Commission For Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) visited the Anganwadi center of Maloya, Chandigarh to witness the various activities going on under ‘Poshan Maah’ an initiative of Social Welfare and Women & Child Development, Department, Chandigarh to impart knowledge about the importance of healthy and nutritious food specially for women and children.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR emphasized the value of adopting good food habits to avoid diseases and to live a healthy life as this is our true food culture practicing by the Shri Guru Nanak Devji 550 years ago too. She further told that mothers should cultivate healthy eating and dietary routine in their kids.

Dr. Rachna Shrivastava, Program Officer and Dr. Poonam Khanna, Assistant Professor from the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh talked about various problems like Hypertension, Obesity, Diabetes, etc due to poor and unhealthy food habits and threw light on the importance of involving Millets in our daily food.

Internationally renowned Chef Mr. Vikas gave a demonstration on ‘How to Cook Millets’ in which he imparted knowledge about making various delicious and healthy recipes by using millets. At the same times, Cooking Contest was organized in which Aaganwadi center beneficiaries prepared healthy food items like Bajra-Jwar stuffed roti, Vegetable Upma, etc. the food items were delicious to eat. Participants were awarded by CCPCR for motivation.  

Further Mrs. Monika, Child Development Project Officer, and Ms. Sarita, Nutritional Consultant talked about the concept of ‘Amma Baba Ki Rasoi’ and told that through ‘Poshan Maah’, various activities is being carried out in the Aganwadi centers to create mass awareness. 

Mr. Kartar Singh, Legal Consultant, CCPCR, Mrs. Ankita, POCSO Consultant, CCPCR, and Mr. Shekhar, Clerk were also present during this event. Interns from Panjab University, Chandigarh interacted with the beneficiaries and Anganwadi workers. They also came to know about the functionality of Anganwadi Centers at grass root level.Anganwadi workers and helpers were awarded by the Commission for their good work too.
