Health Department Bandipora on Monday organised a day long workshop on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” in collaboration with the ICDS department here at Mini-Secretariat.The programme was attended by Chief Medical Officer Dr Tajamul, Chief Education Officer, Social welfare officer, doctors, ICDS supervisors, teachers, health workers, and the employees from different departments.On the occasion speakers from heath and ICDS department stressed on the importance of mass awareness programmes about women rights in the society and empowering them with the education for betterment of the society.Speaking on the occasion ADC Bandipora, Zahoor Ahmad Mir who was chief guest on the occasion said “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign has proved quite fruitful in creating mass awareness regarding the importance of girls in building a balanced society.He said that this scheme is very effective in enhancing the number of girl children and bringing down the dropout rate in schools and number of female foeticide cases besides creating awareness about rights, health, hygiene and information about several schemes for the welfare for the girl child.Mir said Government is keen in providing all possible support for empowering the women folk and added that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign launched nationwide by the Prime Minister is an innovative and fruitful step in this direction.During the program several health workers expressed their views with regard to the scheme and also gave feedback about the implementation of the women specific schemes.
