Member Legislative Council, Dr. Shehnaz Ganai today convened a meeting to review the functioning of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) departments at Dak Banglow Poonch here today.Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Shafiq Ahmed Choudhary, Superintendent Engineer, Hydraulics, Rayasat Khan, XEn PHE, Qayoom Choudhary, XEn, I&FC, Mushtaq Choudhary besides AEEs, AEs and JEs attended the meeting.Dr. Shehnaz enquired about the functioning of different water supply schemes besides reviewing the overall functioning of the department. She asked the XEN to provide water connection to all uncovered households in the town.
Stressing for improving quality of drinking water, Dr. Shehnaz asked the SE to chalk out project for filtration plant in the district besides regular laboratory testing of waters of various schemes and traditional sources of water. She asked the XEn to closely supervise the working of field functionaries to solve people’s grievances at their doorsteps. Dr. Shehnaz also urged the officers to expedite the works on ongoing water supply projects especially in rural areas.
The MLC also took a detail review of the Irrigation and Flood Control department and asked the Executive Engineer for proper maintenance and timely repair of important khuls in the district.A large chunk of farming community in the district depends upon irrigation and disruption of supply through irrigation khuls during peak cultivation season can be disastrous for the small farmers she added.Recalling the destruction caused due to floods in 2014, Dr. Shehnaz said a comprehensive strategy has to be chalked out to face nature’s furry in future. Besides, she instructed the officers of I&FC to proactively pursue the completion of protection band near SK Bridge in Poonch town.
