Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister, Sukhveer Singh, today inaugurated the construction of a ₹1 crore Hockey Astroturf at Village Mimsa. He said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is making concerted efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure across the state and provide modern sporting facilities to the youth.
Addressing the gathering, the OSD said that the State Government is committed to ensuring that talented sportspersons, particularly from rural areas, have access to world-class sports infrastructure at their doorstep. He said this initiative would enable young players to hone their skills and excel at the state, national and international levels.
Sukhveer Singh said that the Hockey Astroturf at Village Mimsa would emerge as a major sporting facility for the region and would give a significant fillip to hockey by providing professional training infrastructure to budding players. He added that the project would also encourage youth to actively participate in sports and lead a healthy lifestyle, thereby steering them away from social evils, including drug abuse.
He directed the concerned officials to ensure the timely completion of the project while maintaining the highest standards of quality so that players can benefit from the facility at the earliest.Prominent among those present on the occasion were Chairman, Market Committee Dhuri, Rajwant Singh Ghuli; Waqf Board Member Dr. Anwar Bhasaur; Chairman, Zila Parishad, Rachhpal Singh Bhullar; besides representatives of the village panchayat, sports enthusiasts, local youth and officers of various departments.
