Rich tributes were paid to the legendary Dogra warrior and “Saviour of Jammu and Kashmir,” Brigadier Rajinder Singh Jamwal, on his birth anniversary during a Shradhanjali ceremony held at Brigadier Rajinder Singh Park, Jammu. The event was attended by prominent citizens, social activists and admirers who gathered to remember the unparalleled courage and sacrifice of the iconic military leader.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi said Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s name occupies a special place in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. He described the Brigadier as a symbol of patriotism, bravery and selfless service whose sacrifice changed the course of history during the critical days of October 1947.
“Brigadier Rajinder Singh Jamwal displayed extraordinary courage and devotion to duty when he led a small contingent of soldiers against thousands of invading forces. His supreme sacrifice provided the crucial time needed for the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to India and enabled Indian forces to secure the region.
The nation will forever remain indebted to him,” Yudhvir Sethi said. The MLA said that Brigadier Rajinder Singh embodied the highest traditions of the Indian military and the valiant Dogra community. He added that his fearless stand against overwhelming odds remains a shining example of leadership and dedication for future generations.
“His life teaches us that courage, commitment and love for the motherland can overcome even the most difficult challenges. It is our collective responsibility to preserve and promote the legacy of such great heroes so that the younger generation understands the sacrifices made for the unity and integrity of the nation,” Sethi remarked.
Paying floral tributes at the memorial, he urged educational institutions and social organizations to spread awareness about the life and achievements of Brigadier Rajinder Singh, who became independent India’s first recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra.
The participants observed a moment of silence in memory of the brave soldier and lauded his unmatched contribution to the defence of Jammu and Kashmir. The ceremony concluded with tributes to the fallen hero and a renewed pledge to uphold the values of patriotism, courage and national service that he represented throughout his life.
