MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi inaugurated a major crate work project in Ward No. 71, Sidhra, undertaken by the Flood Control Department at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 1.25 crore. The project is expected to provide significant relief from soil erosion and drainage-related issues while benefiting residents of six adjoining panchayats.

The work was formally launched from the Sidhra Cremation Ground premises in the presence of local residents, public representatives and officials of the Flood Control Department. The initiative is aimed at strengthening vulnerable areas against monsoon-related damage and improving the overall flood management infrastructure in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Yudhvir Sethi said that the government is committed to safeguarding the interests of people living in flood-prone areas and ensuring that adequate preventive measures are taken before the onset of the rainy season.

“This crate work project is an important step towards protecting public infrastructure, agricultural land and residential areas from erosion and water-related damage. The project will directly benefit six panchayats and provide long-term relief to the local population.

Our objective is to ensure that development reaches every section of society and that public welfare remains at the centre of governance,” Sethi said. He further stated that the Jammu East constituency has witnessed accelerated developmental activities over the past few years, with special focus on strengthening infrastructure, improving civic amenities and addressing long-pending public demands.

“Development is not limited to roads and buildings alone. It also includes measures that protect people’s lives, property and livelihoods. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every area of Jammu East receives the attention it deserves,” he added.

Sethi appreciated the efforts of the Flood Control Department and thanked its officers and field staff for initiating the work promptly. He expressed confidence that the project would play a vital role in mitigating the problems faced by residents during heavy rainfall and flash floods.

Among those present on the occasion were Executive Engineer Gopal Abrol, AEE Mohinder Pal Singh, BJP Bajalta Mandal President Shiv Sharma, General Secretary Bishan Singh, Narinder Singh, Babu Ram and several local residents.

The people of the area welcomed the commencement of the project and expressed hope that it would significantly reduce erosion and drainage problems while enhancing the safety and well-being of local communities.
