As per the election schedule announced by the Punjab State Election Commission regarding Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections, election will be conducted in wards falling under Municipal Corporation Mohali and Municipal Councils of Kharar, Kurali, Naya Gaon, Zirakpur, Derabassi, Lalru and Banur in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district.

In this regard, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Mrs. Komal Mittal today held a detailed meeting with Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, police officials and Additional District Election Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary.

She informed that as per the election programme issued by the Election Commission, nomination papers for these local body elections can be filed from May 13 to May 16, 2026, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on May 18, while candidates may withdraw their nominations till May 19.

Polling through ballot papers will take place on May 26, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and results will be declared after counting on May 29, 2026.The District Election Officer further informed that nomination papers for wards 1 to 25 of Municipal Corporation Mohali can be submitted at the office of Returning Officer Amarinder Singh Malhi, Additional Chief Administrator, GMADA, while nominations for wards 26 to 50 can be submitted at the office of Returning Officer Mrs. Damandeep Kaur, SDM Mohali.

For Municipal Council Kharar (27 wards), nomination papers will be received in the court room of Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh, SDM Kharar.For Municipal Council Derabassi (19 wards), nomination papers will be received in the court room of Returning Officer Amit Gupta, SDM Derabassi.

For Municipal Council Banur (13 wards), nomination papers can be submitted at Tehsil Office Banur to Returning Officer-cum-SDM Dr. Ankita Kansal.For Municipal Council Kurali (17 wards), nomination papers can be submitted at Municipal Council Office Kurali to Returning Officer Sukhwinder Singh, Executive Engineer, Mandi Board.

For Municipal Council Naya Gaon (21 wards), nomination papers can be submitted at Municipal Council Office Naya Gaon to Returning Officer Mehakmeet Singh, BDPO Kharar.For Municipal Council Zirakpur (31 wards), nomination papers can be submitted at Municipal Council Office Zirakpur to Returning Officer Baljit Singh Sohi, BDPO Derabassi.

For Municipal Council Lalru (17 wards), nomination papers can be submitted at Municipal Council Office Lalru to Returning Officer Birkaran Singh, Tehsildar Derabassi.The District Election Officer appealed to Municipal Corporation officials and Executive Officers to ensure that NOCs sought by aspiring candidates are issued within the stipulated time without delay so that no candidate faces difficulty in contesting elections.

She added that if any candidate submits an affidavit in place of an NOC, it should also be accepted.The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned SDMs to personally visit polling booths in their respective areas and ensure that any shortcomings are immediately rectified so that voters do not face inconvenience.

She also instructed SDMs and Returning Officers to prevent unnecessary crowding in offices during the nomination process and to strictly follow the Election Commission’s guidelines. Lists should also be displayed in offices after scrutiny of nominations.

She directed all Returning Officers to keep updated voter lists of their respective constituencies available with them. Emphasis was also laid on training of election staff, dispatch and return of polling parties, safe storage of ballot boxes and identification of counting centres.

SP (Headquarters) Mohit Aggarwal and DSP (Headquarters) Varinder Singh Khosa were directed to ensure proper security arrangements during the nomination process, scrutiny and at polling booths and strong rooms. She also appealed to all political parties and prospective candidates to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct to avoid unnecessary conflict and maintain law and order.
