The Punjab Sakhi Shakti Mela–2025 opened today at Ranbir College, Sangrur amid vibrant cultural festivities, bringing together women entrepreneurs and artisans from Punjab and several other states on one platform. The mela aims to promote women-led enterprises, strengthen rural livelihoods, and highlight the cultural diversity of India.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba and Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal inaugurated the mela by cutting the ribbon. They were accorded a warm welcome with traditional been performances and captivating folk dances.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba said it is a matter of pride for Sangrur to host this significant initiative organised by the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission, the Department of Rural Development & Panchayats, and the Department of Industries & Commerce, Punjab.
He shared that entrepreneurs and artisans from various districts of Punjab, as well as from Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, have brought a diverse range of products to the event. He appreciated the exceptional work of Self-Help Groups and encouraged residents to visit the mela with their families.
SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal stated that such events serve as a meaningful link to our culture and heritage, offering visitors the rare opportunity to witness India’s rich craftsmanship and artistic traditions at a single venue. He also visited the stalls, interacted with artisans, and encouraged their efforts.
The mela, which will continue till 30 November, has become a major attraction for shoppers, food lovers, and families. Special features include amusement rides, an exclusive food court, and daily evening cultural programmes featuring folk performances.
The mela will remain open from 10 AM onwards. The entry ticket is priced at ₹10, while students from government schools may enter free of cost. A large number of visitors thronged the stalls on the first day, enthusiastically purchasing handcrafted items. Students from government schools added colour to the event with energetic folk dance presentations.
Nodal Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sukhchain Singh welcomed the dignitaries, artisans, and cultural performers. He also shared details about the nearly 50 stalls showcasing a wide range of handicrafts, along with the schedule of cultural activities planned for the coming days.
