Vigilance Bureau apprehends Meter Reader absconding in bribery case

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, on Wednesday arrested Meter Reader Pritpal Singh, a resident of village Kheri Mannian, Patiala district who was absconding in a bribery case.Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the state VB that a corruption case was registered against the aforementioned accused under an FIR No 42, dated 19.9.2024 at VB police station Patiala Range.

He further added that a complainant from Patiala city had lodged an online  complaint at the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line against the said accused Pritpal Singh, posted in PSPCL office, Patiala.As per the complaint the said Meter Reader had initially demanded Rs. 50,000 as bribe from the complainant who had installed a private electricity meter in his house but the deal was struck at Rs. 25,000.

The spokesperson informed that the accused was evading his arrest since eight months as his bail application was rejected by the High Court on 4.12.2024. The VB team has continuously raided his hideouts which led to his arrest, he said.
