The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wholeheartedly welcomed the remarks of the honorable Supreme Court, on Monday, on the issue of rigging in the Chandigarh Mayor election on January 30th. AAP said that it is a tight slap on the face of the dictatorial Bharatiya Janata Party who was responsible for the murder of democracy in the broad daylight.

Addressing a press conference to thank the honorable Supreme Court AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang, along with Chairman Neel Garg, said that it is a very significant statement of the Supreme Court where Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud have said that what happened in Chandigarh Mayoral elections is a mockery of democracy and they will not allow democracy to be murdered like this.

Kang said that the entire nation witnessed the working style of the BJP on January 30th and they not only disrespected the mandate of the people of Chandigarh but also hurt the faith of all the citizens in our democracy.

He added that this take of the Supreme Court on this matter has restored that faith of the people in our democracy and justice system. He said that the people of India will remember this and will give the BJP a befitting reply in general elections of 2024.

Kang said that first we had to knock on the doors of the High Court to conduct these elections then BJP's presiding officer tampered with the ballot papers on live video. We had 20 votes whereas the BJP only had 16, but they declared our 8 votes invalid to elect their own mayor.

It was a murder of democracy in broad daylight and our whole leadership, including our national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, has been fighting against it. Kang said that we have been asking for action against the presiding officer since January 30th and today the Supreme Court also said that he should be prosecuted.

A Supreme Court bench led by CJI Chandrachud directed that the entire record of the recently held Chandigarh mayoral elections be sequestered under the custody of Punjab Haryana High Court Registrar. The Bench also directed that the scheduled February 7 meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and their budget session stands deferred till further orders. The AAP thanked the Supreme Court for these directions.

Kang said that India is the biggest democracy of the world and such dictatorship will not be tolerated here. He added that the justice will be delivered to the people of Chandigarh, our country and our democracy on Feb 12th. Kang said that the Aam Aadmi Party have complete faith in the power of people and the justice system of our country.
