Chairman, District Development Council, Reasi Saraf Singh Nag, today inaugurated 3-Day Jammu University Inter-Collegiate Fencing (M&W) Championship 2022-23 here at Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, Mari Reasi.  District Information Officer Reasi, Rajinder Kr Digra who was the guest of honor, was also present.

More than 20 colleges of Jammu division are participating in Men & Women sections. The event is being organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu in collaboration with Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi.

The event commenced with lighting of the traditional Lamp and followed by Sarswati Vandana and solo Dogri Song.The students of GGZSMD College presented a colorful group dance and demonstration bouts in Foil and Epee events of fencing.

Earlier, Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the College formally welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest highlighted the importance of sports for the students and different schemes of the government of India for the promotion of sports, especially in rural areas. 

He also appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee for conducting such a prestigious event in the district. Further, he advised the fencers to reap the benefits of the various govt schemes like Khelo India launched for the promotion & uplift of the sports.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof. Palvinder Kumari, Dr. Chahukeshi and Prof. Ajay Kumar. The Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Samriti Aggarwal.Others present on the occasion included Sardar Padam Dev Singh, In-charge JU Fencing Sports and technical officials including Ranchan Sabarwal, Javed Ahmed Choudhary, Vir Sangram, Mokshi Sharma, Kamal Kumar, Ravinder Kumar, Rajay Kumar and Rohit Panjgotra.

Amit Sharma, Varun Sharma, Dali Devi and Jaha Ara Khan all councilors of Municipal Council Reasi, Dr. Anchal Raj, Dr. Reena Rani, Dr. Parveen Akhtar, Dr. Chaman Lal, Prof. Kewal Krishan, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Saleem Ahmed, Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Prof. Norin Akhtar, Lt. Prof. Sunil Magotra, Dr. Prabjot Kour, Prof. Gourav Gupta,  Neelam Manhas, Dr. Surita Sharma, Prof. Ameeq Rehman were also present on the occasion.

The event has been organized under the direction of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports JU and supervision of Shashi Kumar Sharma, Physical Director GGZSMD College Reasi. On the Day one, GDC Reasi team comprising Vanshika Bandral, Aditika Salmat, Preeti Devi and Roshi Devi won Gold, while GCW Parade comprising Sofia Mehra, Apoorva Bhuria, Isha Thakur and Rudrakshi Vaid bagged Silver.

Similarly, GDC Katra team comprising Shallu Devi, Sunaina Rajput, Meenakshi Sharma and Manisha Kesar and GDC Samba comprising Nitika Sharma, Malkeet Kour, Mehul Jamwal and Komal Sharma shared the  Bronze medal
