Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee today organized a one day Sensitisation workshop on “Poultry Waste Management” here at Conference Hall, JKPCC, Jammu.The workshop aimed to create awareness among Poultry Farm Owners about scientific management of Poultry Waste by adopting best available technologies to minimize pollution.

The awareness workshop was organized under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Neelu Gera, Chairperson JKCC; K. Ramesh Kumar, Member Secretary, JKPCC; Sat Paul, Regional Director, JKPCC Jammu and Rafi Ahmed Bhat, Regional Director, JKPCC Kashmir  to ensure effective implementation of Environmental Guidelines for Poultry Farms issued by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in compliance to the NGT directions.

The Regional Director JKPCC Jammu welcomed all the participants and briefed about the objective of the workshop. K. Ramesh Kumar, Member Secretary JKPCC stressed upon the need for effective compliance of Guidelines for Environmental Management of Poultry farms while assuring concerned stakeholders of simplifying the processing of consent mechanism. 

He also emphasized the role and responsibility of Poultry farm owners in minimizing pollution and for alternate use of poultry waste, viz., Briquettes making etc.The workshop was attended by all Divisional Officers, JKPCC and other stakeholder departments from Jammu / Kashmir, viz., Animal Husbandry Department, President Poultry Farm Associations, Jammu / Kashmir along with various Poultry Farm Owners who actively deliberated upon the various aspects related to implementation of guidelines vis-à-vis constraints being faced by them.

A detailed presentation was made by Anuradha, Scientist, JKPCC, Jammu regarding Environmental Management of Poultry Farms as per provisions laid under relevant guidelines of CPCB, and also briefed the gathering about cheap and best practices to ensure additional revenue generation from Poultry litter.

Further, Inventorization/status of registration of Poultry Farms was explained in detail by Dr. Raj Kumar, Poultry Manager, Animal Husbandry Department Jammu.Best Practices already adopted by few of the Poultry Farm Owners in J&K were shared by President Poultry Farms Association, Jammu, Sh. Baljeet Singh, as a success model which can be replicated by all Poultry Farm Operators in Jammu and Kashmir.
