Director General, Floriculture, Parks & Gardens, Jammu S. Jatinder Singh, today participated in an awareness/training programme on commercial floriculture organised for growers and entrepreneurs at village Chhann Morian, Panchayat Chann Khatrian in Block Hiranagar, Kathua.

The programme was organized by District Floriculture Officer under the ongoing Jan Abhiyan programme in the District.Prominent among others present were Sarpanch Sham Singh, Assistant Floriculture Officer Atul Sharma, ON Chaudhary, Puran Chand and Shamsher Singh.

Speaking of the occasion, the Director General deliberated upon various schemes related to commercial floriculture under MIDH, RKVY & ATMA. He urged upon the unemployed youths and farmers to register themselves under these schemes and start their own business in loose and cut flower production, aromatic plant cultivation, ornamental nursery and use of integrated farming for their employment and revenue generation.

He also stressed upon the officers to carry out intensive awareness/training programmes across the district to reach out the maximum number of growers and attract them towards highly profitable commercial flower cultivation.

The Director General also informed that under Jan Abhiyan programme, out of a target of 1000 farmers, a total of 735 farmers have got themselves registered with the department in the first four days of the Abhiyan.

Around 75 progressive farmers including female farmers attended the training/awareness programme and discussed different issues related to commercial floriculture. Besides, marigold seedlings were also distributed among the farmers present in the programme by the department through Director General Floriculture and sarpanch of the area Sham Singh.
