Every year lakhs of candidates appear in the Civil Service Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), but the success percentage remains only around 1%. Most of them are those who spend lakhs of rupees on coaching, but even after that, they do not get success. The main reason for this is the lack of knowledge about the strategy to prepare for this exam. So here we are going to tell you about the success story of an IAS officer who cracked this exam through self-study without any coaching.

This IAS officer is Sarjana Yadav of Delhi. She prepared for the UPSC Civil Services exam without coaching alongside handling a job and became an IAS officer by securing the 126th rank in the civil services exam in his third attempt year 2019. Sarjana completed her graduation in engineering from Delhi Technological University (DTU). After graduation, she started working as a research officer in TRAI. Along with her job, Sarjana appeared for UPSC exam twice but she failed. That's why in order to prepare better for the exam, he left his job in 2018 when he started preparing seriously. She says that she was not able to give her full attention while trying with the job. But when he resigned from his job in 2018 he started preparing full time.

Preparation without Coaching

UPSC exam is very difficult. So most of the candidates join coaching to prepare for this exam. For this, they have to spend lakhs of rupees. On the other hand, Sarjana Yadav had a different point of view regarding this examination. In an interview, Sarjana said that it depends on the desire of the candidate whether he wants to take coaching or not. If you think that you have complete study material and your strategy for UPSC is better, then you can also get success by relying on self-study. At the same time, if the person feels that they will be able to perform better in the classroom environment, then they should join coaching. However, if you are disciplined and honest about your studies, then self-study is much better.

Sarjana prepared for the exam with a job

Sarjana Yadav completed her graduation in engineering from Delhi Technological University. After graduation, she started working as a research officer in TRAI. Along with her full-time job, Sarjana prepared for the UPSC exam, but she was not successful in the first two attempts. He did not give up and learned a lot from his mistakes. Sarjana left her job in 2018 to prepare better for the exam. She says that she was not able to give her full attention to the effort she made with the job. But when he resigned from his job in 2018 he started preparing full time. However, despite this, he did not join coaching and relied on self-study. Through self-study, Sarjana Yadav fulfilled her dream of becoming an IAS officer by securing 126th rank in All India in the year 2019.

Learn from Sarjana; exam preparation tips

Giving tips for the preparation for this exam to the candidates in an interview, Sarjan Yadav said that the candidates should make a strategy according to their ability to prepare for this exam. Along with starting the preparation, the study hours should also be decided. During this, try to read any subject deeply, so that there is no confusion left. Once the syllabus is over, practice as much revision and answer writing as possible. Do not be afraid of failure at all, keep working hard, you will definitely get success.

Prepare better with limited study material

Sarjana said that the UPSC syllabus is very vast, so if you will read 2-3 books for each subject, it will become difficult to complete the syllabus in the stipulated time. He said to choose a good book for each subject and read it thoroughly. Also, you can take the help of Google for the necessary knowledge.

Focus on Mock Test

Sarjana says that many aspirants waste a lot of time in making notes of all the subjects, even though it is not necessary. However, it is very important for IAS aspirants to give mock tests. Give mock tests regularly to rectify your mistakes. Also, make notes of only those topics which are difficult to understand and have long paragraphs. This will save you time.

Read the Newspaper daily

Sarjana says that most of the candidates preparing for this exam are either working or have recently graduated. So they do not have the habit of reading the newspaper daily. Although it is very important. Candidates should make a habit of reading the newspaper daily. Along with this, you can also take the help of an online website, where complete information about current affairs is available. Sarjana also believes that you may study for fewer hours, but read things deeply with a full heart.
