CCPCR launches 10 day long celebrations to mark the occasion of National Girl Child Day

Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights launched calendar of events to be organised by commission over the period of 10 days to mark the National Girl Child Day with intent to create awareness about the importance of social transformation for girls. The calendar was launched by Mrs. Lippi Parida, Eminent Artist and Sh. Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary SLSA, in presence of Smt. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR along with Dr. Monika Singh and Ms. Pooja Punchhi, Members CCPCR at Aashiana, Sector-15, Chandigarh.As part of the 10 day long celebrations, the commission plans to hold various activities;  inauguration of digital library at Bapu Dham Colony, interactive visit with mothers and pregnant women at Model Jail (Burail), workshop on POCSO Awareness with SMCs of Chandigarh schools and a Self Defence Training for girls. The commission will also launch its flagship Child Ambassador Program and Mentorship Program- Eternal Embrace (Gal Wakdi). These programmes are aimed at increasing the awareness regarding various issues faced by girls in India and to equip the children of Chandigarh with better skills and resources for development and growth.CCPCR has also been conducting various skill development workshops for girl children at Aashiana.  It includes a workshop on textile designing conducted by Mr. Manoj Sharda, another workshop on macramé work by eminent macramé artist Ms. Guneet Kaur and Bakery workshop, the initiative for which was taken by Ms. Pooja Punchhi, member, CCPCR herself, she taught the girls to bake variety of cakes. These workshops were organised with an aim to inculcate those talents in the girl children which would assist them in their vocational rehabilitation and would act as an aid for a better future.
