Marking National Girl Child Day, students from Government School Kanna Chargal, Bajalta, Tehsil Jammu Khas, were taken on an educational tour to the Office of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, in an initiative aimed at empowering girls and fostering their understanding of administrative governance.

The visit was organised by the Social Welfare Department under the leadership of District Social Welfare Officer Preeti Sharma as part of the nationwide observance focused on "Empowering Girls for a Bright Future" and promoting equal opportunities for the girl child in every sphere of life.

During the exposure visit, the young girls visited individual offices within the district administrative complex and were apprised of the functioning of the district headquarters. The highlight of the programme was an interactive session with Deputy Commissioner Dr Rakesh Minhas, who engaged with the students to understand their academic goals, aspirations and challenges they encounter in their educational journey.

Dr Minhas encouraged the students to pursue their dreams with determination and underscored the administration's commitment to creating an enabling environment for girls' education and empowerment. He stressed that educated and empowered girls are essential for building a progressive society and urged them to become agents of positive change in their communities.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ansuya Jamwal also held an inspiring interaction with the students, motivating them to approach life with determination and resilience. She impressed upon the girls the importance of setting clear goals and working systematically towards achieving them, while simultaneously contributing to the welfare of their families and society at large.

The educational tour was facilitated by the college faculty who guided the students throughout the visit. Several officers including ADDC Sher Singh, Tehsildar Jammu Paramdeep Singh, Tehsildar Hq Mona Chalotra and other functionaries of the district administration also interacted with the young visitors, sharing insights about governance and administrative processes.

A comprehensive awareness session was conducted wherein the students were informed about various welfare schemes implemented by the Social Welfare Department, particularly those designed for the welfare and empowerment of women and the girl child.

The schemes highlighted included provisions for education, healthcare, skill development and financial assistance aimed at ensuring holistic development of girls. As part of the day's celebration, the students were presented with refreshments and gifts, making the occasion memorable for the young participants.
