National Girl Child Day was observed today in District Kathua with a grand programme organised by the Department of Social Welfare at Sports Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, ADDC Surinder Kumar, District Social Welfare Officer Kathua Varun Kumar Chaudhary and Child Development Project Officers of Kathua and Barnoti were present on the occasion.
The Deputy Commissioner interacted with girl children in the age group of 1 to 3 years and distributed Baby Care Kits among them. He appreciated the efforts of the Social Welfare Department and highlighted the initiatives being implemented under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
He said that these initiatives are reaching a large number of beneficiaries across the district and are contributing significantly towards improving health, hygiene and awareness, while promoting a positive societal attitude towards the girl child.
A Mass Pledge Ceremony was also organised under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by the District Social Welfare Office. Participants took a pledge to fight against drug menace and to contribute towards building a healthy and addiction-free society.
