Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today lambasted the Congress government for betraying the people of Punjab in general and the Dalit community in particular by reneging from the promises it made to them on the poll eve. This was stated at a meeting of the SAD’s SC Wing presided by its president S. Gulzar Singh Ranike at the party headquarters today. Making a scathing attack on the congress government for its non-performance during the last one year S. Ranike said that this government has failed on all fronts as it was running away from its poll promises made to farmers, youths, and employees. “It made huge promises to the dalit community to get their votes but ended up fulfilling none. It promised to increase the amount of shagun scheme to Rs.51000, widow and old age pensions to Rs.2500 per month, free power to SC families from 200 units to 300 units, to distribute sugar and ghee along with Atta-dal, pre-matric and post matric scholarships for SC students, free books for school students, Rs.2500 allowance for unemployed youths and many more” he added.

Asking the people to stand up against the anti-dalit polity of the government, the SAD leader urged that the district presidents and other office-bearers of the party to make the people aware about the fraud played on them by the congress government. “This government needs to teach a lesson for playing with emotions of underprivileged sections of the society” he added.Requesting to all MLAs to raise up the dalit issues along with the other highly important issues of Punjab in the upcoming budget session, the SAD leader said that this message should go across the state that as for as the poll promises are concerned, the Congress has lied to all sections of the society and betrayed all of them in the same manner. He asked the party workers to immediately report to the party about all incidents of harassment inflicted on them by the congress leaders or workers. Others who attended the meeting were Bibi Satwant Kaur Sandhu, Mohinder Kaur Josh, Satwinder kaur Dhaliwal,Sohan Singh Thandal, Desh Raj Dhugga,Manjit Singh Manna, Joginder Singh Jindu, Harpreet Singh Malout, Darbara Singh Guru, Retd Justice Nirmal Singh, S R Kler, Darshan Singh Kotfatta, Darshan Singh Shiwalik, Ishar Singh Meharban and Manjit Singh Mehton.EOM
