1162 Visually impaired electors to use their franchise

Shri  Narinder Chauhan, Chief Electoral Officer said here today that out of total 4608359 Electors, 1162 Visually Impaired Electors were registered as voters and can use their franchise on 4th November, 2012 for Vidhan Sabha polls in the State. Among all the 12 Districts of the State, Kangra District has the highest number of 415 Visually Impaired Electors, he added. Shri Chauhan said that Mandi District has 144 visually impaired electors. Hamirpur District has 112 and Shimla District has 176 visually impaired electors registered as voters. He further said that Kullu District has 95 visually impaired electors, Una District has 70, Bilaspur District has 29 and Sirmour District has 99 visually impaired electors registered as voters.He further said that out of total 1162 visually impaired electors only 36 electors are braille literate as per information available with the Election Department. He said that 364 were 100 percent visually impaired electors. Sh. Chauhan said that the Commission had introduced braille signage features in the Electronic Voting machine to facilitate visually impaired electors to cast their votes without the help of companions. He further said that all Presiding Officers in the State would be provided braille Ballot Papers sheets to assist braille literate voters.
