The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has ordered legal action against those involved in encroachment of 80 kanals of state land at village Khanna Chargal in Jammu district and departmental action against the officials of Revenue Department, who have facilitated encroachers in grabbing the government property illegally. The Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Jammu has been directed to submitted Action Taken Report to the Commission by May 26, 2016. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Commission held under the chair of Chief Vigilance Commissioner while examining the report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu in a land encroachment complaint received by the Commission.Earlier, the Commission had received a complaint in which complainant had alleged that one Om Prakash and his sons have encroached on State land and fraudulently managed false entries in revenue records with active support of a local Patwari. Complainant has also alleged that Om Prakash used to harass and threaten the locals for raising voice against the encroachment.

The State Vigilance Commission had directed the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to get the matter investigated thoroughly and submit the findings to the Commission so that people involved in this scam are identified for legal action. The report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner prima-facie revealed that land bearing khasra No: 615 at village Khanna Chargal, Jammu, measuring about 821 kanals is State Land and was classified as Gair Mumkin Khad. The report said that in the year 2004, the  Patwari concerned  fraudulently made  entries in revenue records, measuring about 65 kanals, in favour of Omkishwar and Omeshwar  both sons of Om Prakash  and 15 kanals in favour of one Mohammad Razak as illegal occupants, out of 821 kanals. However, the said chunk of land was restored to the State by expunging the false entries from the Girdawari Register last year, the report said.
