The student organisation of India (SOI), wing of Shiromani Akali Dal protested against the DAV School, BRS Nagar for defying the directions of Punjab government to declare winter vacations from December 25 to January 3.Following the protest by SOI activists supported by parents of school students the school principal declared winter vacations and sent back the students.The students and their parents thanks SOI for standing for the students rights. The students were raising the slogans of "SOI Zindabad".The school principal told SOI activists that they have not received any orders from government to declare the winter vacations but after the SOI president shown the cops of orders the principal agreed to close the schools.SOI Zonal president Meetpal Singh Dugri said that the Punjab education minister has announced winter vacation fromDecember 25 to January 3 but it has came to notice that some private schools have not declared winter vacation yet.

Meetpal Singh Dugri said in the chilling winters the students suffered with health problems but even them some schools defy the orders of government to declare winter vacations.Few days ago a memorandum was submitted to Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Ajay Sood requesting them to order school authorities to declare winter vacations.Meetpal Singh Dugri said that if any school will found opened during winter vacations, then they will protest against the school and also take up the matter with Chief minister and urge for strict action against school playing with the health of students.Sec. General Prabhjot Singh Dhaliwal, Media Incharge Sahib Chawla, Raja Kang,Diljit Gill,Jeevan Sekhan,Taranpreet Singh,Nirbhai Singh,Puneetpal Bawa,Achint Baweja,Prince Kang,Jyoti Singh,Karma Singh,Gagandeep Singh and many more were present.
