Police Friday said the militancy graph in North Kashmir has come down considerably from past two years. Deputy Inspector General of Police for North Kashmir Range Gareeb Das told CNS that locals in North Kashmir are in mood to join militant ranks as all the attempts from existing militants to lure young boys have failed so far. “There are more non-local militants than local ones in North Kashmir. The active local militant Qayoom Najar is on police radar and he will be in our net in coming days. We have almost zeroed in on him and hopefully he Najar will be traced and nabbed,” Das said adding that with the arrest or killing of Najar, the militancy in North Kashmir will almost come to an end.
He said that Bandipora, Baramulla, Handwara and Kupwara are peaceful and post tower attacks, Sopore has limped back to normalcy and the footprints of militants has receded drastically. “A stray incident or gunfight doesn’t imply that militancy is on rise. The statistics reveal that militancy has almost come to an end in North Kashmir,” Gareeb Das said.Responding to a question, Das said that captured militant from Pakistan has confessed his role in militancy and he has even revealed that two weeks ago, he was a part of a LeT group that was five in number. “That group has been eliminated. We have a robust information network and militants have been finding it hard to move and strike at will,” he said. (CNS)
