Ahead of Independence Day celebrations and in wake of militant attacks in different parts of Valley in past few months, security grid has been intensified across Kashmir.“We are taken all necessary measures and have set up barricades on all roads entering into Srinagar city to prevent any terrorist attack,” IGP Kashmir Syed Mujtabha Geelani told KNS over phone. He, however, denied any possible threat of militants striking in any part of the city on Independence Day. “Our forces are alert and active to prevent terrorist attack. We are taking every possible measure,” he added. He said the security has been stepped up across Kashmir region after militants carried out four attacks in Shopian district and Srinagar in a span of 12 hours in which 15 persons including five security force personnel were injured.

“We have deployed our forces in strength across the state. The vulnerable spots in Srinagar and other major towns have been sensitised and sealed to thwart any attacks by the terrorists,” he said.Meanwhile, frisking and checking of passengers and personnel vehicles in Srinagar city has been intensified with policemen and CRPF personnel could be seen stopping the vehicles on roads and checking them intensely.
