National Conference Saturday held protest demonstrations against what it termed government’s failure to address people’s problems and pursuing anti-people policies. In Srinagar, the protest march started from NC headquarters Nawai Subah that pressed through Radio Kashmir Road and culminated out side Press Enclave.Senior National Conference leaders Ali Muhammad Sagar, Nasir Aslam Wani, Mubarak Gul, Salman Sagar, Ali Muhammad Dar were part of the march. Carrying placards and banners seeking roll back of new recruitment policy and halting the process of issuing State Subject Certificates at school level, the supporters of NC amid anti-government slogans set the PDP flags on fire.Stressing on the need of change in the governance system in Jammu and Kashmir, Ali Muhammad Sagar said the problems faced by the people are a ‘direct fallout of an inefficient and insensitive government which is at the helm of affairs in the State.” He assailed the 'New Recruitment Policy' of the PDP-BJP government in the state, alleging it is "fraught with several infirmities" with regard to the element of transparency and future of those employed on contractual basis.
"While credibility in the process of selection shall remain a big question mark, the temporary nature of appointments with rider of seven years satisfactory performance for regularization is bound to result in uncertainty of those appointed", Sagar said and also added that National Conference will never allow Government to set up separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir. "We are against separate clusters for Kashmiri Pandits. We welcome them (to Kashmir), but we will not let the government to create separate colonies for them," he said. Sagar said National Conference has always supported the return of Kashmiri Pandits to their native places in the Valley. "We have always said that we want them to return to the Valley and settle at their native places along with their Muslim brothers," he said.
He also castigated government for issuing Permanent Resident Certificates at School level demanding that earlier procedure should be followed in letter and spirit. National Conference Provincial President Nasir Asalm Wani told CNS that the present government led by PDP has been pursuing anti-youth policies. "It is an anti-youth policy, which has potential of jeopardizing the career of the educated unemployed, as those appointed will always feel a sword hanging over them", Wani said adding that “when a well-defined process of recruitment is in place, why should the PDP-BJP government resort to short cuts. This is bound to raise certain questions in the public mind about recruitment being politicized at the cost of youngsters' career.”
Earlier, the National Conference leader while addressing their supporters at party headquarters alleged that the present government has failed to deliver goods in the state and it is pursuing anti-people policies. Demanding an immediate rollback of the new policy the NC leaders said that the policy would open a Pandora's box which will give rise to "corruption, nepotism and favouritism".They asked the government to initiate a process of fast-track recruitment by gearing up the recruitment agencies like Public Service Commission and State Subordinate Services Board.The NC leaders said PDP-led government has been taking people for granted and have always been exploiting them for its political ends. “The PDP is seeking dictation from Nagpur for local administrative measures,” they said.
