Jora takes stock of sanitation activities in Srinagar city

Minister for Urban Development and Urban local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today  visited Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh and Kursoo areas of Srinagar city and took stock of the arrangements made for sanitation drive with regard to  removal and dispose-off of garbage/ waste coming out from these areas.The Minister interacted with the people and staff of the SMC and enquired about the measures taken for lifting the garbage/waste and its dispose-off.Jora was told that as many as 29,707 MTs of garbage has been lifted and disposed off so far, by conducting 6329 trucks trips from various Municipal wards to the land fill site Achan from  September 11th to October 3rd, 2014.

The Minister was also informed that from Jawahir Nagar, 82 truck garbage/waste was lifted and disposed off during last night sanitation operation. Similarly, 34 trucks loads of garbage/waste was lifted and disposed off yesterday from various areas including Mysuma, Gantagar, exchange road and Court road areas of Amir Kadal.

Municipal Commissioner SMC, Dr. G. N. Qasba  also accompanied the Minister during the visit.

Later, Qasba also visited Eidgah, Hazratbal, Jamia Masjid, Naqasband Sahib, Dastgeer Sahib and Syed Sahib Sonwar the venues where the Eid congregations would be held on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha. He instructed the concerned for proper up keep and maintaining sanitation in and around these venues by sprinkling disinfectants, phenyl, odour control and fumigation baygon. (KNS)
