In a significant step towards promoting digital safety and consumer empowerment, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Regional Office Delhi, organized a Consumer Outreach Program on Cyber Hygiene at Govt. Mohindra College, Patiala. The event was held in collaboration with the Patiala Consumer & Telephone Subscribers Forum, and witnessed an overwhelming response from the local community.
Around 250 participants, including students, faculty members, consumer rights advocates, telecom service providers, and members of TRAI-registered consumer groups, actively took part in the awareness drive. The program aimed at sensitizing citizens about the challenges of cyber threats, spam communications, and the importance of adopting safe online practices in the increasingly digital era.
The program featured insightful sessions led by specialist speakers from the Cyber Crime Cell, Patiala Police, who educated the audience about the growing menace of cybercrimes, phishing attempts, financial frauds, and social engineering tactics used by cybercriminals. Their address emphasized the urgent need for personal vigilance and responsible digital behavior.
Adding further value, Shri Rajesh Tripathi and Shri Sushil Kumar Bansal, senior officials from TRAI, highlighted the regulatory measures and consumer-friendly initiatives being undertaken to protect users from unsolicited communications and online frauds. They elaborated on TRAI’s efforts to ensure transparency, curb spam, and strengthen consumer rights in the telecom sector.
A key highlight of the outreach program was the live demonstration of the TRAI DND 3.0 App and the Sanchar Saathi Portal. Participants were shown, how to use the platforms to report spam calls and messages, block fraudulent communications, and safeguard their personal information. Many attendees not only downloaded and installed the DND 3.0 app during the session but also pledged to act responsibly and spread awareness among peers and family members.
The event concluded with an engaging interactive session, where participants raised practical questions related to cyber hygiene, spam reporting, and data safety. Experts addressed the queries, ensuring that the attendees left with practical knowledge and tools to enhance their digital security.
