Mohali’s Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi today, taking charge himself against the administrative apathy and negligence of the drainage department, launched a campaign to clean the Lakhnour drain. The surprising thing is that neither the municipal corporation nor the district administration extended any cooperation in this work.

As a result, the Deputy Mayor spent from his own pocket and started the cleaning work by deploying JCB machines. Talking to journalists on the spot, Bedi informed that the rainwater of Phase 3, Phase 4, Phase 5, 3B2, Sector 71, and Mataur, among other areas, drains out through the Lakhnour drain.

But due to the drain not being cleaned for many days, this water is not draining properly and is reversing and entering people’s homes, due to which the people are facing huge problems. He told that despite repeated complaints, and even after giving a written notice to the Deputy Commissioner and meeting him personally, the administration did not take any action.

He said, “For the last 15 days, we have been demanding cleaning from the drainage department and the district administration, but no solution was found. Just half an hour of rain flooded people’s homes, due to which people are extremely troubled.”

The Deputy Mayor said that in view of the people’s distress, today he himself arranged JCB machines and started the cleaning process so that the rainwater could be drained properly and people could be saved from further damage. He emphasized that this cleaning comes under the drainage department, but when the administration does not do its work, then public representatives have to come into the field themselves.

Bedi warned the state government and the district administration that if the problems of rainwater and cleaning are not resolved immediately, then the residents of Mohali could face serious health-related dangers.
