The Department of Posts continues to broaden its service capabilities by introducing innovative solutions and adopting advanced technologies, thereby enhancing outreach to every corner of the country. As part of its global service network, international parcel delivery is currently available to 219 countries and regions across the world.
In a major step towards strengthening partnerships with various Government Departments and enhancing operational efficiency, Chandigarh General Post Office (GPO), located in Sector-17, has launched the facility of On-Spot Customs Clearance for international parcels booked at Chandigarh GPO. Earlier, the customs clearance process was routed through New Delhi, often causing delays. With the establishment of a Foreign Post Office (FPO) at Chandigarh GPO, the process has become faster and more convenient, ensuring quicker delivery and improved customer satisfaction.
To further ease the parcel booking experience, a dedicated Parcel Packaging Facility is now operational at Chandigarh GPO for both domestic and international shipments at affordable charges. Booking counters are functional from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily, including Sundays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, providing extended accessibility for the public.
Apart from mail services, Chandigarh GPO is delivering a wide range of enhanced banking, insurance, and philately services. Citizens can now avail of internet banking, NEFT/RTGS, and online deposits for Recurring Deposits (RD), Public Provident Fund (PPF), Sukanya Samridhi Account (SSA), as well as online premium payments for Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) through India Post Payments Bank. Small savings schemes such as Senior Citizen Saving Scheme, Monthly Income Scheme, NSC, KVP, and Time Deposits are also available with attractive interest rates.
In addition, Chandigarh GPO is actively involved in delivering other key citizen-centric services including Aadhaar enrolment and updation, railway ticket bookings (available even on Sundays), Panjab University fee deposit, Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) services, and more.
