To ensure that individuals affected by drug menace have equal opportunities for employment or self-employment, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal has directed officials to develop a comprehensive plan for providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for them. This initiative aims to integrate rehabilitation with skill development and employment, taking a holistic approach to help these individuals lead normal lives by reintegrating them into society.

During a meeting of the Governing Council of the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises (DBEE) and the District Skill Committee, Jorwal stated that individuals struggling with drug dependence would be offered various job opportunities, in addition to enhancing their skills through training programs.

This support is intended to empower them to earn a livelihood like others. He stated that Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to driving youth employment, skill enhancement, and social rehabilitation initiatives.

Further in a forward-looking move to address employment challenges arising from migration, Jorwal also directed the establishment of a Migration Support Centre under the DDU-GKY framework in Ludhiana. This centre will provide targeted assistance for individuals navigating the complexities of migration and employment.

Recognizing the need for increased awareness among youth, particularly students in grades 9 to 12, the Deputy Commissioner also emphasized the importance of continuous guidance. He proposed that every school and college guidance counsellor should be updated with the latest knowledge and practices.

To ensure they are well-equipped to advice and support students effectively, a monthly counselling session for counsellors will be organized. He further instructed officials to focus on industry empanelment in collaboration with the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) to facilitate captive employment by creating strong linkages between industry partners and the local workforce, thereby driving sustainable economic growth.

The meeting also covered the PM Internship Scheme, simplifying candidate registration by establishing Help Desks in participating departments. Eligible candidates aged 21-24 can benefit from practical experience and financial assistance. More details are available at pminternship.mca.gov.in.
