Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh chaired a meeting of the Cooperative Department at the Mini Conference Hall, DC Office Complex, to discuss various initiatives in light of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.

The meeting reviewed plans for celebrating the occasion through activities like plantation drives, awareness camps, and sports events. The department was asked to collaborate with the District Youth Services and Sports department for organizing sports activities and emphasized the need to enhance the performance of cooperative banks.

Deputy Registrar Cooperative Department Vishal Deep provided an update on the district-wide reconciliation reports for December 2024. The DC urged for increased customer awareness to promote cooperative banking.

Discussions also covered the Joint Working Committee (JWC) agenda, with a focus on bringing marginal farmers into Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS).  Additionally, the installation of food processing units including an Atta Chakki processing unit in Assar was discussed.

Further, the meeting reviewed progress on CAPEX works for 2024-25, noting that five projects have been completed. The development of cooperative marketing societies in Bhagwah, Bharat, Bagla, Thathri, and Bathri, along with plans for new cooperative shops were also discussed.
