A cycling expedition aimed at creating awareness among the voters in view of upcoming Lok Sabha Elections-2024 (LSE) and Assembly bye-elections was flagged off by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Maneesh Garg from the historic Ridge today. Starting from Shimla the expedition will culminate at world's highest polling station located at Tashigang (15256 feet) on 20th May, 2024.
CEO said that this seven-day cycling expedition from Shimla to Tashigang will create awareness among voters especially among first time voters. He said that six people are participating in the cycling rally, out of which State election icon Jaspreet Paul and his team member Kshitij will go from Shimla till Tashigang while other four cyclists will be part of this expedition till Narkanda.
This expedition will go to Tashigang via, Theog, Narkanda, Rampur, Rekong Peo, Nako, Kaza, Kaumik, Hikkim. It is pertinent to mention that the expedition will pay tribute to the First Voter of India Late Shyam Saran Negi on 16th May at Kalpa.
The CEO said that the main objective of this event was to ensure participation of maximum people in this election. In view of the LSE and AC bye-elections in the state, participation of all the eligible voters was very important. He said that the main objective of this expedition was to make people aware about the importance of voting.
414 kilometer long cycling expedition resonates with Misson 414
Sh. Garg said that the distance between Shimla to Kaza is 414 kilometers which also coincides with Election Department's Mission 414 Systemnatic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative. This Mission is aimed at increasing voting percentage at 414 polling stations, where the voting percentage was low in LSE-2019.
He said that this time nearly three percent of total voters in the electoral rolls would exercise their franchise for the first time and this expedition would go a long way in engaging and sensitizing the youth about their right to vote.
The CEO said that the Election Department was organizing various types of events from time to time with the aim of making people aware about voting. In this series, a plan has been prepared to organize cycling rallies in nine districts on 25 and 26 May, 2024. Participation of maximum youth will be ensured in these rallies so that the voting percentage could be increased.
On this occasion, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dalip Negi, Returning Officer and District Electoral Officer Anupam Kashyap, Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, Additional District Electoral Officer Abhishek Verma, OSD SVEEP Neeraj Sharma and other officers were present.

14 से 20 मई तक शिमला से टाशीगंग तक का सफर तय करेंगे साईकिलिस्ट

लोकसभा चुनाव-2024 एवं विधानसभा उप-चुनाव के मद्देनज़र मतदाताओं को जागरूक करने के उद्देश्य से शिमला से काजा तक 14 से 20 मई, 2024 तक आयोजित साईक्लिंग एक्सपीडिशन का शुभारंभ आज मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी मनीष गर्ग ने ऐतिहासिक रिज से रवाना किया। उन्होंने कहा कि यह सात दिवसीय साईक्लिंग एक्सपीडिशन शिमला से होकर लाहौल-स्पीति में स्थित विश्व के सबसे ऊंचे मतदान केन्द्र टाशीगंग (15256 फीट) तक लोगों को मतदान के प्रति जागरूक करेगा।
उन्हांेने कहा कि साईक्लिंग रैली में 6 लोग हिस्सा ले रहे हैं, जिसमें से स्टेट इलेक्शन आइकन जसप्रीत पॉल एवं उनके साथी क्षितिज शिमला से टाशीगंग जाएंगे तथा अन्य 4 साईक्लिस्ट नारकंडा तक इस एक्सपीडिशन का हिस्सा होंगे। यह साईक्लिंग रैली ठियोग, नारकंडा, रामपुर, रिकांगपिओ, नाको, काजा, कौमिक, हिक्किम से होते हुए टाशीगंग तक जाएगी।
अभियान दल 16 मई को कल्पा में भारत के प्रथम मतदाता स्वर्गीय श्याम सरन नेगी को भी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करेगा। मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने कहा कि लोकसभा एवं विधानसभा चुनाव के दृष्टिगत प्रदेश में 1 जून, 2024 को मतदान दिवस पर सभी वर्गों की भागीदारी अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है।
लोगों को जागरूक करने के उद्देश्य से इस साईक्लिंग एक्सपीडिशन की शुरुआत आज शिमला से की गई है। इस चुनाव में अधिक से अधिक लोगों की भागीदारी सुनिश्चित करना इस आयोजन का मुख्य उद्देश्य है।
मिशन 414 के साथ शिमला से काजा की दूरी भी 414 किलोमीटर
मनीष गर्ग ने कहा कि शिमला से काजा की दूरी 414 किलोमीटर है और निर्वाचन विभाग का मिशन भी 414 है। मिशन 414 अर्थात् वह 414 मतदान केन्द्र है, जहां पर बीते चुनाव में वोटिंग मतदान प्रतिशतता कम रही थी। इसी दृष्टि से इन मतदान केन्द्रों पर मतदान प्रतिशतता बढ़ाने के लिए विशेष जोर दिया जा रहा है।
उन्होंने कहा कि मतदान सूची में 3 प्रतिशत युवा मतदाता है, जो इन चुनावों में पहली बार मतदान करने के लिए पात्र है। इन युवाओं को मतदान के प्रति जागरूक करने मे यह रैली एक महत्वपूर्ण संदेश देगी। मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने कहा कि निर्वाचन विभाग द्वारा समय-समय पर लोगों को मतदान के प्रति जागरूक करने के उद्देश्य से विभिन्न प्रकार के आयोजन करवाए जा रहे हैं। इसी कड़ी में 25 एवं 26 मई, 2024 को 9 जिलों में साईक्लिंग रैली के आयोजन की योजना तैयार की गई है। इन रैलियों में ज्यादा से ज्यादा युवाओं की भागीदारी सुनिश्चित की जाएगी ताकि मतदान प्रतिशतता को बढ़ाया जा सके।
इस अवसर पर अतिरिक्त मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी दलीप नेगी, रिटर्निंग अधिकारी एवं जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी शिमला अनुपम कश्यप, पुलिस अधीक्षक शिमला संजीव कुमार गांधी, अतिरिक्त जिला निर्वाचन अधिकारी अभिषेक वर्मा, ओएसडी स्वीप नीरज शर्मा सहित अन्य अधिकारीगण उपस्थित थे।
