The District Election Officer, Sakshi Sawhney, visited the proposed strong rooms for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and counting centers at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Monday to ensure that the polling and counting processes for the on-going general elections were held fairly and transparently. Sawhney was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Major Amit Sareen, ARO Atam Nagar assembly segment Randeep Singh Heer and Assistant Commissioner Krishna Pal Rajpoot.
Sawhney reiterated the district administration's unwavering commitment to conducting free and secure Lok Sabha polls. She meticulously reviewed the arrangements at these places and gave necessary directions to the officers. She stated that fool-proof security arrangements would be made by the district administration at these places during the polling and counting processes.
The guidelines of ECI will be followed in letter and spirit for the strong rooms and counting centres. She also took details on CCTV, power supply, fire-safety measures and maintenance and updating of official registers kept at the venues. The District Election Officer also emphasized that the district administration would put in place an elaborate system of security measures and procedural checks aimed at ensuring fool-proof security of the strong rooms/counting centres.
These safeguards would be implemented with the active involvement of political parties, candidates and their representatives at every stage to build their confidence in the efficacy and reliability of the electoral process. She said that anyone trying to disturb the peaceful conduct of these elections would be dealt sternly as per the law.

ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ, ਸਾਕਸ਼ੀ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਲੈਕਟ੍ਰਾਨਿਕ ਵੋਟਿੰਗ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ (ਈ.ਵੀ.ਐਮ.) ਅਤੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕੇਂਦਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵਿਤ ਸਟਰਾਂਗ ਰੂਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ਕਿ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਆਮ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹੀ ਜਾਵੇ। ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਧੀਕ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਮੇਜਰ ਅਮਿਤ ਸਰੀਨ, ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਆਤਮ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਰਿਟਰਨਿੰਗ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਰਣਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਹਾਇਕ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਪਾਲ ਰਾਜਪੂਤ ਵੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਨੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਦੀ ਅਟੁੱਟ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੁਹਰਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਾਰੀਕੀ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਇਜ਼ਾ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਪੁਖਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਸਟਰਾਂਗ ਰੂਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਕੇਂਦਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਚੋਣ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੀ.ਸੀ.ਟੀ.ਵੀ., ਬਿਜਲੀ ਸਪਲਾਈ, ਅੱਗ-ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਉਪਾਅ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਗਏ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੱਖ-ਰਖਾਅ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਡੇਟ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਵੇਰਵੇ ਲਏ। ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਚੋਣ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ 'ਤੇ ਵੀ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਟਰਾਂਗ ਰੂਮਾਂ/ਕਾਊਂਟਿੰਗ ਸੈਂਟਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਫੁਲ-ਪਰੂਫ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਉਪਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸਤ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
ਇਹ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਉਪਾਅ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ, ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ੀਲਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਰੋਸੇਯੋਗਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਹਰ ਪੜਾਅ 'ਤੇ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਮਨ-ਅਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਘਨ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
