‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ observed at Kulgam

The ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’, was today observed at mini-secretariat Kulgam to mark the birth anniversary of iconic tribal leader Birsa Munda. The programme marked participation of masses particularly members of the tribal community, PRIs and locals. Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, Mohd Afzal Parrey said that from ancient times, tribal community was neglected a lot, however a positive change is occurring throughout and present administration is focused for upliftment and welfare of tribals.

Addressing the event, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat highlighted significance and historical background of the day and said that the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ is dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters so that coming generations could know about their sacrifices for the country and a tribute to Birsa Munda who fearlessly worked for the freedom of India.

He also highlighted various initiatives and measures that have been taken by the Administration for upliftment and progress of tribal communities. He added that the government is focused and slew of measures have been taken for the betterment of the tribal community. Dr Bilal also gave a brief of projects completed and dedicated for tribals. DDC Member from Manzgam, Jameela Chowdary and other speakers from Tribal community threw light on the priceless sacrifices by various tribal leaders on the path of securing freedom of the nation.
