Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, today chaired a review meeting at the Mini Secretariat to assess the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in the district. The meeting was attended by the Chief Planning Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Agriculture Officer, Lead Bank Manager, representatives of insurance companies, bankers, and officers of the Agriculture Department.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed crop-wise enrolment, awareness campaigns, claim settlement status, and grievance redressal under PMFBY. Emphasizing the importance of the farmer-centric scheme, the DC directed the Agriculture Department to intensify awareness campaigns at the panchayat level to ensure maximum coverage of eligible farmers.
He said PMFBY provides crucial financial protection to farmers against crop losses caused by natural calamities, pests, and diseases. The DC directed the Chief Agriculture Officer, District Agriculture Officer, and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officers to organize special enrolment camps across all blocks in coordination with banks and insurance companies to facilitate registration of both loanee and non-loanee farmers before the prescribed deadline.
Lead Bank Manager was instructed to ensure timely coverage of all eligible loanee farmers and prompt uploading of farmer data on the National Crop Insurance Portal. Insurance companies were asked to expedite crop loss assessments and ensure timely settlement of claims, while a district-level PMFBY help desk will be made functional in the office of the Chief Agriculture Officer to address farmers' grievances.
During the meeting, the Chief Agriculture Officer briefed the meeting on the current status of enrolment, while the Lead Bank Manager assured full cooperation from all banks for effective implementation of the scheme.
