Madan Mohan Mittal, Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister, Punjab today directed the Technical Education and Industrial Training Department to take strict action against all those engineering and polytechnic colleges, who have been charging fee and non-refundable compulsory fee from Scheduled Castes students covered under post-matric scholarship scheme.He said that he had received complaints that certain engineering & polytechnic colleges of the state were flouting the explicit directions of Punjab Government not to charge fee refundable as well as non-refundable from the eligible Scheduled Castes students and any institution charging fee should remain ready for Penal action. He said that SAD-BJP government was committed for the welfare of Schedule Castes and other oppressed classes and would not hesitate to take action against those colleges who were violating government guidelines in this regard.He also issued directions to Director, Technical Education to publicize this scheme properly so that desirous and eligible Scheduled Castes students could avail the benefit of this pro-poor scheme of SAD-BJP government.
