Punjab Industries Minister Mr Madan Mohan Mittal today said that day is not far when India would become a "Congress Mukt" country. He said that the Congress party has always been a party ruled by the most corrupt and that is why, people have been rejecting it in all parts of the country. Mr Mittal said this while addressing the gathering on the occasion of "Save Democracy and Anti Emergency Day" that was observed on 41st anniversary of emergency near Mini Secretariat, here today.This function was also attended by former minister Mr Satpal Gosain, BJP District President Ravinder Arora, former Punjab Public Service Commission member Anil Sarin, Senior BJP leader Mr Anil Gupta, former district president Parveen Bansal, vice president Jatinder Mittal, secretary Rajnish Dhiman, Kamal Chatley, Sanjeev Malhotra, Mahila Morcha State President Renu Thapar, besides several others.

Several persons who were jailed during the black days of emergency were also honoured by Mr Madan Mohan Mittal.While addressing the gathering, Mr Mittal said that on this day 41 years ago, the then Congress Government had clamped emergency to gauge the freedom of expression, snatching fundamental rights and civil liberty of the people and the country. He said that the 21-month period of dictatorship marked by absolute tyranny and authoritarianism of worst kind, imposed on the nation by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was one of the darkest periods of Indian political history. On the mid night of June 25, 1975 , emergency was proclaimed to satisfy ones personnel lust for power.Mr Mittal said the frightened 21 months that followed witnessed the dark period of Indian democracy and Indian people will never forget and forgive it. He said that many leaders like Punjab CM Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Mr Jai Parkash Naryan, former prime minister Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, Mr L.K. Advani and other leaders across the country were detained under MISA and other draconian laws. He said that total censorship was imposed and trouble sterilization and other such human measure were unleashed on the country men.Mr Mittal said that people would never forget the dark days of emergency and when the emergency came to an end, it was like second independence for the fellow countrymen after 1947.
