On the eve of Children’s Day being celebrated every year on 14th November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, special programs were today organised in various schools across Pulwama by school Education Department (SED) with the main event held at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Pulwama.

The programme commenced with patriotic songs followed by speeches, skits and songs. Students played different games and also organized a cultural programme. Some students also spoke on the importance of the Day.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama said that the children of today are the future of tomorrow for any nation. The way they are brought up determines the future of the country. It is the day that champions the rights of children and it raises awareness on the need to get them educated as they are the future.

He added that this day is marked with special assemblies and functions in order to increase participation and make children aware of the country and the eminent personalities that were part of it. He apprised the children about how Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru made great changes in the educational setup of the country.

On the occasion, other speakers also highlighted the importance of child rights, as this day is also a reminder that every child irrespective of their caste, creed, financial or political status deserves basic amenities that include education, health care and sanitization. It is also important to save them from social evils like child trafficking and child labour.
