In order to make people aware of the culture of Punjab as well as other states, a state-level 'Saras Mela' is being held in Sangrur from October 8 to October 17. Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Jitendra Jorwal said that The Punjab government led by the Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann has decided to hold the state level 'Saras Mela' in Sangrur at Government Ranbir College Sangrur.
Earlier in the year 2013, 'Saras Mela' was held at Sangrur and now this time this fair is to be held from 8th October to 17th October.On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jitinder Jorwal instructed the administrative and police officials to start the preparations for the state level event from today so that the arrangements can be done on time.
He said that Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) will be overall incharge of the arrangements of this fair and the duties of administrative officers have also been assigned for the management of various works. He said that the duty officer has been given the responsibility of the police for smooth arrangements of traffic and parking and cleanliness of the city.
Jitendra Jorwal said that the Saras Mela will provide a special platform for the presentation of the artworks of participating artisans from different parts of the country and also provide an opportunity for art lovers to enjoy artistic varieties. He said that artisans from many parts of the country will participate in this fair and will get an opportunity to sell their handmade goods directly to the buyers at the good price.
He said that people will be able to enjoy various types of food here along with the folk arts of different states.On this occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varjit Walia, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SDM Sangrur Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SDM Dhuri Amit Gupta, SDM Bhawanigarh Vineet Kumar, SDM Dirba Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Devdarshdeep Singh, Assistant Commissioner (UT) Nitesh Kumar Jain and officials of various departments were present.
